Beginning with the absolutely essential point of light advertising, the illumination must be uniform, there must be no distinct points or unlit parts. This may seem simpler than it is in reality, we often see these problems in exclusive places like airports and luxury brands. It takes a wealth of experience to get it right and to use the right components for different possible applications. At 3P, we carefully monitor and test every advertisement before shipping to make sure we leave our production with a flawlessly lit product.
Foil vs printed graphics
Although we are in an era where printing is widespread in all areas and it is a convenient technology for manufacturers because the work is done by the machine, there is no need to stock inventory and leftovers are minimal, it is definitely not the most suitable technology for the client. Printed films have a number of disadvantages in advertising :
The first is a shorter lifespan - printed films fade, if you've encountered washed out colour on an advertisement you can be almost certain it's a printed advertisement.
Poorer lightfastness - printed films have lower saturation, so they lighten a lot when illuminated, which counteracts their advantage of a relatively wide colour gamut. It is often difficult to be satisfied with the appearance of the printed film after the light has been shone through.
The biggest advantage of printing is the wide colour palette, but little is known anymore that the same job (CMYK) looks a little different from each printer, so there's no certainty there either.
The solution to all of these problems is to work with cut graphics, these are stencil films (which is where the disadvantage of their limited colour choice comes in) that are specifically made for light advertising, they are always the same, the colours are rich and they perform well when lit and they have a long life - you can count on colour fastness for 5+ years. We have a graphic workstation with plotter technology, a large stock of foils and an experienced team of arrangers. We always strongly recommend cut graphics to clients because we want them to last as long as possible, regardless of the higher production costs.
There is no advertising like advertising
Although the outside (appearance) of an ad may look the same, what's inside (how it was constructed) can be very different. It's something you won't know right away, but after a few years it can be the difference between having to order a new ad and still having your ad as good as new. The following design elements in particular are key with advertising :
Quality LEDs and power supplies - there are a huge number of cheap components, but these are very faulty. This is especially crucial with LEDs and power supplies, because you don't want to have an ad that will illuminate poorly. We only use components that have been proven over the years and will last for many years after the warranty, so you can rely on the lighting.
Adequately sized materials - our designs adhere to strict standards for safe performance, we don't replace materials with thinner ones to save money and put clients at risk of their ad falling apart in the first strong wind. We base our designs on both structural assessments and thousands of successful, trouble-free implementations. We are ISO EN 1090 certified for welding aluminium and iron structures.
